Former NHTSA chief Cliff: Return to CARB ‘irresistible'

Steven Cliff had been acting administrator of NHTSA since February 2021, confirmed by the U.S. Senate in May 2022 as its 16th administrator. In August — less than three months after the Senate confirmation — the California Air Resources Board announced Cliff's departure from NHTSA to run the state agency.
